LoveSongDesmond — Lyrical Art from the West Side

Artist Spotlight: LoveSongDesmond — Lyrical Art from the West Side

At The Forty Ninth Supply Co., we’re all about the hustle, the craft, and the community that keeps the 907 moving. When we talk about local artists who truly embody that "do it yourself" Alaskan spirit, LoveSongDesmond (LSD for short) is a name that stays at the top of the list.

Desmond isn't just making tracks; he’s building a world. We sat down with the West Side native to talk about his journey, his "shtupid dummy" flow, and why he’s more interested in substance than chasing trends.

The Name & The Hustle

For Desmond, the name LoveSongDesmond isn't about ballads—it’s about the process.

"I truly LOVE the work it takes to go from an idea in your brain to something you can play over & over. Therefore, to me, every song I make is a LoveSong."

Raised on the West Side of Anchorage, Desmond credits the people in his environment rather than just the geography for shaping his sound. It’s that grit and authenticity that shines through in his music—a "time stamp" of his growth and feelings at any given moment.

The Sound: Making the Canvas

If you haven't heard an LSD track yet, expect "lyrical art." He isn't interested in the "copy-paste" rap culture.

"It’s like lyrical art about experiences we all go through in life," he explains. "But it’s beyond just buying a canvas at the store and painting it... We making the canvases, the paint, and the paint brushes now."

His style? "THE FLOW IS SHTUPID DUMMY." It’s rooted in Hip-Hop with heavy substance, drawing inspiration from a massive range of influences including Tyler The Creator, Adele, Tech N9ne, and Gorillaz.

Milestone Moments

From opening for Soulja Boy and HAARPER to rocking stages in the middle of Town Square, Desmond has been putting in the miles. One of his most "full circle" moments happened recently at SunDown, where he got to recreate a childhood photo with Tech N9ne.

"It was a confirmation to me from the universe that the dream is possible and I’m following my right path," says Desmond.

He’s also dropped a massive body of work recently: “For You the Trilogy” (Good for You, Bad for You, and For You), a cohesive story that plays in a perfect circle. If you haven't checked it out, you're sleeping.

"It’s Just a Lil Work"

When asked about the challenges of being a Hip-Hop artist in Alaska, Desmond keeps it as real as it gets. He quotes his best friend DJ: "It's just a lil work." Whether it's sharpening the craft until people are forced to ask "who’s that?" or building the relationships to get in the room, Desmond views the struggle as the fun part.

What’s Next?

Keep your eyes peeled for "C.L.O.T.I." (Crash Landed On Thin Ice) a new project involving music and film—along with more beat tapes and collaborations with the U.G. brethren.
