“My artist name is my name, but with an X replacing the A. Partially, it’s aesthetic, but mainly, it’s inspired by my favorite artist, XXXTENTACION. He’s the person who inspired me to create, and so I’m trying to carry on his legacy.”

Roots in Alaska & the Stories That Shape the Music

BXLIN was born in Fairbanks and raised throughout Anchorage, spending most of his childhood around Muldoon and Debarr in the Creekside Apartments. His early music exposure came from his dad—DMX, Andre Nickatina, Twista, and others—shaping his taste and the stories he would eventually tell.

“The main way Anchorage has influenced my music is just through story. I tell the story of my life through the music.”

How Music Became a Calling

He began writing and rapping at 14, playing with FL Studio and discovering the world of production. After his favorite artist passed away, creating music became more than a hobby—it became purpose.

“I started to take it seriously after my favorite artist died. I wanted to fill the void that was missing in my life.”

Inside His Creative Process

When creating, BXLIN listens to instrumentals until he finds one that sparks inspiration.

For production, he starts by setting the BPM based on instinct—tapping out whatever tempo feels right. From there, he experiments with sounds, shaping and manipulating them until they become something distinct and emotionally charged.

A Milestone That Matters: Independence

The achievement he’s most proud of is independence.

“I’m happy and proud to say that I’ve done this mostly independently. Only now am I starting to receive help from outside sources.”

His journey has been self-driven, reflecting dedication, discipline, and deep passion.

Challenges of Being an Artist in Alaska

Alaska brings its own set of hurdles.

“Location is one—the disconnect from the rest of the US. Luckily, we have the internet.”
He also cites seasonal depression as a challenge:
“Music brings me fulfillment. I try to take care of myself during the harsh months.”

Even with obstacles, he continues to evolve and stay committed to the craft.
